A shortlist of fun things you probably didn’t know about motherhood

In as much as motherhood is about making logistical changes like maintaining new sleeping routines, it’s also about making emotional changes for you and your baby. Hereunder are some fun things you likely didn’t know before but should keep in mind even as you embrace and enjoy motherhood, courtesy of RockerMama, a community of new mothers and caregivers.

First, it may infuriate you that everyone seems to know better than you about how it is to raise your kid. They’d likely tell you to do this or avoid that, given a chance. This will be true even for people you hardly know. Just remember that it’s normal and that you just have to take their words in stride. You are not at all clueless; it’s part of the motherhood learning curve.

In the same way, your belly will draw so much attention. Everyone will want to touch that pregnant tummy, as though they all know you closely, even reaching a point where they’re telling you what your baby’s gender will be. When you’re in a crowd, it would seem like each conversation revolves around your body, as though you’re the first woman to get pregnant.

The bathroom will be one of your favorite sanctuaries in the house. You’d likely find respite there, shouting cute words when your kids are looking for you, even as you relax for long periods and just study shampoo labels or play your favorite smartphone game.

You’d be surprised to find out just how stubborn toddlers are when it comes to clothes. When it’s cold outside, they’d detest wearing those coats and gloves and insist on wearing that cute swimsuit.
In the end, you might as well be Jon Snow in "Game of Thrones" and admit that you know nothing. Don’t get this wrong though; you did read the requisite books and guides, but when the baby arrives, it’s as though you are wearing the dunce cap. Funnily, you think your partner knows what to do only to realize after that he is just as clueless as you, says RockerMama.

RockerMama knows that parenthood is more than just rocking babies to sleep. It is a community of new mothers and caregivers that aim to meet, inspire, and support each other while making good on its strong desire to give back to the community. Visit thisblog for similar posts.
